About me

Hi, my name is Isa!

I spent my earliest adult years learning how engineering can improve medicine. My biomedical engineering undergrad was highly technical and computer based. As I entered the final stretch of my degree late in 2022, I itched for a creative outlet. I knew I needed something that would take me away from screens, get my hands dirty, and challenge my perfectionism.

I enrolled in a month-long pottery course at a local Salt Lake City studio and quickly fell in love. In true beginner fashion, I started making soooooooo many mugs. I’ve loved watching my pottery style transform over the years. I’ve already set a trend for myself this year - I’m throwing bigger than I have before. I can’t seem to stop myself from turning serving bowls into big colanders!

I left engineering years ago, and now spend my summers as a park ranger. No matter the season (of year, or life), I cram in as much time at the pottery studio as I can. After all, few things have brought me such challenge, growth, and fulfillment like pottery.

I dream, someday, of having a throwing wheel in my backyard, and a kiln in the garage. Maybe I’ll even be able to make pottery my full-time winter season job! I’m looking forward to what the future holds.

Why Cavatappi?

In short:

I LOVE PASTA.

In long:

My pottery style changes so much throughout the year. I want my signature to transcend whatever phase I’m in and truly reflect me and my work as individual. I racked my brain trying to think of something that would fit the bill and also hadn’t been done before. I finally realized that the only staple I’ve had throughout my entire life is…….pasta!

I have loved pasta and noodles for as long as I can remember. So, in a very brief conversation where I raised and dismissed the name “Noodle Ceramics”, I threw out my favorite pasta shape, cavatappi!  So, here we are today as Cavatappi Ceramics, staying true to the funky, playful shape of the cavatappi noodle.
